I’ve had a message from a really nice lad called Kallum who goes to Hamstel School in Southend. He was pleased that I’d mentioned Hamstel in a previous blog, so I’ve decided to tell everyone about a really cool activity week they had there recently.
About 40 kids got together to take part in Spy School – during the week they did all sorts of stuff to do with the world of espionage … looking at forensic science (including fingerprinting techniques), learning to swim long distances under water to be undetectable (very James Bond), and my contribution, which was a session on the book, and a lesson on how to create a convincing spy character. It was really good fun – the kids came up with some brilliant pieces of writing! At the end of the week everyone graduated as a fully qualified spy – I was so impressed that the teachers at Hamstel put a lot of effort into making sure everyone had the the best time.
And, Kallum was crowned Top Spy for working really, really hard. Well done, Kallum! And his prize – a copy of Edwin Spencer Mission Improbable. What an honour … for me!
